PUBLIC SECTOR WEBSITES DISCRIMINATE
A new report launched today by Ennis Information Age Services (EIAS) shows that accessibility awareness among public sector websites is still noticeable by its absence. The latest report launched at the Irish Internet Association`s Internet Congress finds a high percentage of public sector websites are inaccessible to a portion of the population and in particular discriminate against people with a disability. With 323,707 people classified as disabled (CSO – June 2003), which accounts for 8.3% of the population in Ireland, this is an unacceptable situation says Ennis. The EIAS `Web Accessibility` report provides an analysis of the standards of accessibility achieved by 27 public sector websites, using eight criteria.
