CLOSURE OF CENTRE FOR SOFTWARE ENGINEERING A BIG SET BACK FOR IT
The closure of the Centre for Software Engineering (CSE) in Dublin City University is a major set back for IT in Ireland according to the Irish Computer Society. The CSE, which was established in 1991, was closed today with the loss of 12 jobs. The centre was the national focal point and support service for the software development community within Ireland. Commenting on the closure Frank Cronin, CEO, ICS said: “At a time when we need to invest further in IT development, the closure of one of our national centres of excellence is a backwards step. The work that the centre was undertaking has national and international importance. In addition to the 12 jobs that are being lost and the cancelling of many valuable projects, the damage to our international reputation is immeasurable.” www.ics.ie
