ICAD AWARD WINNERS ANNOUNCED
The winners of the 45th Institute of Creative Advertising and Design (ICAD) Awards were announced recently. From 189 nominations the ICAD juries awarded a total of 46 gold, silver, bronze and craft awards. Seven gold bells were scooped by advertising agency, McCann Erickson for their ads for Coca Cola and Heineken. www.icad.ie

LOCAL COUNCILS TO DRIVE E-CITIZENSHIP
The Local Government Computer Services Board (LGCSB) has won funding for an ambitious e-citizen community programme to be rolled out across four local authorities in the first half of next year. The Information Society Commission has given €250,000 to the Mobhaile Community and Voluntary scheme, the second phase of LGCSB’s Mobhaile project where the aim is to push council data out to the public through accessible online portals. BUPA CONTRACT AWARDED TO CLEARSCAPE
Clearscape have been awarded the highly contested contract for the design and development of the new BUPA Ireland website. SIEMENS BUSINESS SERVICES DEAL WITH ALLIED IRISH BANK
Siemens Business Services has signed a multi-year contract with Allied Irish Bank to provide infrastructure maintenance and associated services to the Bank on a group wide basis. The multi-vendor support services cover client/server and network communications equipment for all branch and head office locations across the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and Great Britain. This agreement follows the Bank’s decision to solicit proposals in line with the consolidation and integration of historically dispersed IT operations and the requirement to rationalise suppliers and leverage strategic relationships. The contract will deliver significant cost reductions and allow AIB to establish stringent service levels which fit its business purpose, while also delivering the appropriate metrics to manage them. www.sbs.ie/news

IRISH BROADBAND NOW AVAILABLE THROUGHOUT DUBLIN CITY
Irish Broadband (www.irishbroadband.ie), provider of wireless broadband Internet access, now provides broadband coverage throughout Dublin city and has commenced roll out in North Dublin with the launch (26th November 2003) of it’s two latest high sites. These high sites in Leeson Street, Dublin 2 and in Botanic Road, Glasnevin, Dublin 9, bring the number of Irish Broadband sites to 12 in the Dublin area. All business and home Internet users in Dublin areas 1 to 10 can now avail of Irish Broadband service.

O2 & WS2 SATELLITE SYSTEM TO HELP COMBAT DUBLIN TRAFFIC
In what is a first in Ireland, O2 Ireland and software company WS2 have completed the installation of a satellite tracking system which will help Aircoach, the Dublin airport private bus company, to manage its fleet and boost customer service. The technology, costing less than €100,000 to implement, helps Aircoach meet its schedule of a coach every 15 minutes despite Dublin`s traffic congestion. This has been made possible by O2 Ireland`s GPRS network combined with GPS software developed by O2 partner, WS2. Since August, users can log on to Aircoach`s website at www.aircoach.ie and view in real time where each coach is located on the route. This is also available to passengers on a large screen at the Aircoach terminal at Dublin Airport, with the position of each coach updated every seconds. www.WS2.com & www.o2.ie

SIEMENS MOBILE SETS WORLDWIDE JAVA CHALLENGE
Siemens Mobile and Sun Microsystems have teamed up for the second year to launch the Java Masters Award following the success of last year’s inaugural competition. This year’s competition introduces a new Business Award (BIZ), which invites entries from start-up companies. Judges will be looking for well-designed business concepts and models along with resource saving programming which are particularly important for mobile devices. The winner of the Business Award prize will receive professional business coaching from a dedicated Siemens Mobile Acceleration Investment Director. DATA ELECTRONICS SECURES €100k PIGSBACK.COM CONTRACT
Data Electronics, a provider of integrated outsourced solutions supporting business IT infrastructure, has announced it has won a €100,000 contract to supply co-location and support services for Pigsback.com`s entire web infrastructure including web servers, application servers, database servers, firewalls and load- balancer.
