FURTHER DROP IN IT APPLICATIONS
The ICS has warned that CAO applications for IT courses in 2003 seem likely to remain at the low levels experienced in 2002, and may drop even lower. Indications are that there has been a failure to communicate the long- term strength and excellent job prospects of the sector. High profile stories highlighting problems in the IT industry have not been balanced by presentation of the basic health and excellent growth potential of the industry, according to the society. According to the society a further fall in numbers will cause future skills shortage problems for Irish companies as we may be unable to meet the demand for an estimated 14,000 new IT professional jobs in 2005. www.ics.ie
